Carpet Cleaning Offers

If you're finding that no matter how much you vacuum, your carpet still does not look like it used to, it may be time for a deep-cleaning. While there are do-it-yourself cleaning methods on the market, hiring a professional may be the safest, fastest and easiest option. When considering a professional carpet-cleaning service, the BBB advises the following:

• If your carpet is new, read the warranty or ask the seller if there are any special cleaning methods recommended by the manufacturer. Some carpets must be professionally cleaned on a regular basis to maintain their warranty.

• Obtain references from family and friends or request references from the company. A reputable cleaning professional should have available a list of satisfied clients that use their services. Also, check the company out with the Better Business Bureau. Company reports are available by calling 713-868-9500, (800) 275-3626, or on the web at www.bbbhou.org.

• Call several cleaning companies to compare prices.

• Know what you want done, and refuse to be pressured into purchasing services you do not want or need.

• Be wary of extremely low advertised prices that seem too good to be true. Refuse to do business with a firm that uses "bait and switch" tactics. In this practice, a company will entice you with a low-priced service, only to play down the offer and then recommend a different service, usually at a more expensive price.

• Ask about extras that may increase the cost of the job. Find out what's included in the basic services offered. What constitutes an extra charge? What are the prices for each?

• Ask up front what care is required after the cleaning. How long will it take the carpet to dry? What kind of ventilation is needed?

• Before signing a contract or invoice that confirms the total price, carefully scrutinize the list of services performed. Make sure you are not charged for any "extras," such as removal of spots, preconditioning, or moving furniture. These services are typically included with routine cleaning.
