Pager Alert!

Imagine that you are paged with a long distance phone number that you don’t recognize. When you return the call, you hear a tone at the other end and hang up, thinking that it must have been a wrong number. When you receive your statement, you are shocked to find out that you were charged $100 for that call.

A BBB member had this experience and later learned that the number was an out-of-business phone room in Las Vegas. The number was still active, so the company would simply page people across the country and collect the expensive phone charges. Warn your employees not to answer long distance pages that they do not recognize, and to never call a 900/976 number that appears on their beeper screen.
